Sweden made a powerful start to the 2026 World Cup with a 5-1 win over Tunisia in their Group F opener at Monterrey Stadium in Mexico.
Yasin Ayari opened the scoring early for Sweden before Alexander Isak doubled the lead. Omar Rekik then pulled one back for Tunisia before half-time.
Sweden took control after the break as Viktor Gyokeres scored the third goal, Mattias Svanberg added the fourth after a VAR review, and Ayari completed the rout with a powerful stoppage-time strike.
The win sent Graham Potter’s side to the top of the group after the Netherlands and Japan drew 2-2 in the other fixture, while Tunisia suffered a damaging start to their campaign.
Tunisia now need a quick response before facing Japan, while Sweden will go into their next match against the Netherlands with confidence after an impressive attacking display.
