A major fire broke out at St. Jakob-Park, home of Swiss side Basel, causing severe damage to the first-team dressing room area and several match-related facilities, according to the club and international reports.
Basel said the blaze damaged kits, boots, and medical and technical equipment. The club also confirmed that no injuries were reported, while the cause of the fire had not been established at the time of publication.
Because of the damage and the lack of usable equipment, Basel’s league match against Thun was postponed, with a new date set to be announced later. The delay comes at a key stage of the season as Basel had been preparing to face the league leaders.
