Habib Diarra after Senegal exit: We are devastated, no comment on referee

Diarra reflected on Senegal's painful defeat to Belgium and declined to discuss the refereeing.

Senegal midfielder Habib Diarra expressed deep frustration after the Lions of Teranga lost 3-2 to Belgium after extra time in the 2026 World Cup Round of 32.

Senegal had led by two goals through Diarra and Ismaila Sarr before Belgium struck twice late in normal time and then won the tie with a penalty in the closing moments of the second half of extra time.

According to post-match media reports, Diarra said the Senegal players were devastated by the way the game ended, while declining to make a direct comment on the referee's decisions.

The match produced major controversy after the decisive penalty was awarded following a video review, with Senegal players protesting the incident that allowed Youri Tielemans to score the winner.

Senegal's campaign therefore ended after a match they had been close to controlling, only for a dramatic late collapse to turn it into one of the most painful defeats for the team and its supporters.
