Al-Owais targets Saudi cohesion and a new 1994-style World Cup run

Mohammed Al-Owais says Saudi Arabia are more cohesive as they target a 1994-style run.

Saudi Arabia goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais said the Green Falcons have become more cohesive ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup opener against Uruguay in Group H.

The match will be played at Miami Stadium in the United States, in the early hours of Tuesday Cairo and Mecca time, against a side with a rich World Cup history.

Al-Owais explained before the game that Saudi Arabia used their camp to correct mistakes from warm-up matches and improve readiness before the tournament begins for them.

The goalkeeper stressed respect for Uruguay as a major football nation and a genuine contender, but also made clear that Saudi Arabia enter the match with ambition rather than caution alone.

Saudi Arabia are aiming to revive memories of their historic 1994 run in the United States, when they reached the round of 16, still their best World Cup achievement.
