Al Ahly have taken a fresh step in the refereeing dispute that followed their Egyptian league match against Ceramica Cleopatra, after filing an official complaint to the Egyptian Football Association against referee Mahmoud Wafa and asking to hear the conversation between the on-field referee and the VAR team, while also requesting an investigation into the appointment and the decisions made during the game.
According to media reports, the club has also opened discussions with several Premier League clubs in Egypt over a proposal to establish an independent referees' association operating on a professional basis with administrative and financial autonomy.
Al Ahly are still seeking full clarification over the controversial incidents that affected the match, while the issue remains under review pending the response of the relevant football authorities.
