Luis Figo has defended Xabi Alonso amid criticism of Real Madrid's season, saying a coach should not be judged too quickly, especially in a complicated environment.
In remarks carried by the Spanish press, Figo said Real Madrid themselves must share part of the responsibility for the disappointing results, adding that any technical project needs sufficient time before final judgments are made.
The former Portugal star also said that going two seasons without trophies increases the tension around the club, but stressed that the full picture should not be reduced to the coach alone.
On the Champions League, Figo added that he would like to see Atletico Madrid lift the trophy, according to the comments attributed to him in Spain.
